REPORT:

After Guides and Guiders travelling from Cork, Wexford, Dublin and Newry arrived in the Historic village of Carlingford on Friday 10th Oct, we all sat down for a supper of noodles and toast. There wasn’t time to do much on Friday night but once the girls were in their rooms they got to making friends with their room-mates!!

Saturday morning saw a lot of sleepy girls emerge from their rooms, but luckily after breakfast they really got into sessions which included; mask decorating, publishing a newsletter and a treasure hunt around Carlingford. After lunch a lot of thought and effort was put into painting little wooden chest of drawer jewellery boxes, which all turned out absolutely fabulous. The girls also designed pennants and all patrols put together a fitness routine. This was followed by a bit of free time, a quick trip to the shops, dinner and a very nice, song filled, evening mass. Then the girls were all asked to congregate in the courtyard in the centre for the evening entertainment which was learning Sean Nos dancing, from Alison (from the National Office). Before we started the dancing, we felt we all needed to loosen up a bit so the different patrols demonstrated their fitness routines. They were brilliant, (Guiders, with a little encouragement and a bit of music, the girls can come up with some serious routines. Give it a try, you’ll be surprised).  So then the dancing began. All the Guides and Guiders really got into the dancing, shuffle shuffle stamp, shuffle shuffle stamp, but then the Brush was introduced!! Yes after a while we were all dancing around a sweeping brush and boy did we have fun!! Thanks Alison… Of course as tradition has it, we ended our night with a Campfire followed by toast and hot chocolate, mmmmm…..

After breakfast, packing and clearing rooms the girls headed off on their activity with the centre. It was based on the Krypton factor, each patrol had to complete challenges in order to move onto the next one. The guides were told they might get a little wet, a few of them fell head first into muddy water and I think the rest just jumped in!! They all came back mucky, wet and hungry but extremely happy campers!! After a satisfying dinner and a quick presentation on the Chief Commissioner Award and photos from the weekend, we said our goodbyes and we all headed home. All in all it was a great weekend and hopefully enjoyed by all!! Thank you to all the Guiders, your help throughout the weekend was very much appreciated, Suzanne, thanks a mil!!

I would like to put in a short paragraph about Carlingford Adventure Center, it’s a great place to bring the Guides. The staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful, the centre was clean and warm, and the food was plentiful and very tasty. We only availed of one activity but they have a huge range of facilities. I’d certainly recommend Carlingford Adventure Centre for a weekend camp, or even just Carlingford itself for a Guider’s weekend away!!!!
