All Section Day
Saturday 25th April 2009

Almost 1000 members of CGI attended the all section day in April.  Members travelled from the Dioceses of Cork &Ross, Dublin, Ferns, Kilmore and the Northern Region.

The day began with many coaches pulling in full of very excited girls.  Following registration the girls divided up into their groups and headed off to their first activity.  Activities for the day were on a round robin basis that saw two groups head to the circus in the morning and Funtasia in the afternoon while the other two groups did the same in reverse.

The Circus was an excellent show with a wide variety of acts from the strong man to the clowns. It was fantastic to see the big top full of Rangers, Guides, Brigins and Cygnets and the atmosphere was electric. Everyone was hanging on the edges of their seats as the stars flew through the air on the high swings. The antics of the clowns created great laughter and the strong man amazed even the most sceptic of the crowd. The staff of Fossetts were really great with the girls especially the cygnets who tended to be a bit nervous! During the interval the girls got an opportunity to ride the ponies, which strangely enough wasn’t just taken up by the Cygnets and Brigini!  The atmosphere for the finale just had to be experienced to be believed.

While in Funtasia things were also very exciting.  All the girls went to the Waterpark while their other activity depended on their section.  Cygnets and Brigini went to the Playcentre while Guides went roller-skating and Rangers did the skywalk. The queue for the waterpark was more than a little frustrating but it was worth the wait to see the excitement of all ages when they reached the water.  There was something there for everyone, from the small water slides to the very adventurous "Tyre slides" where the older and more adventurous girls could come down the slides in the rings at high speed.  The squeals of delight said it all, not to mention the reluctance of most to leave the water when their time was up.

The Cygnets and Brigini had a whale of a time on the playcentre going in and out of the climbing bars, ball pools and other areas.  Hopefully all the running around wore the girls out for their trip home.  Meanwhile the Guides were whirling around at the roller-skating or at least some where! Others seemed to spend more time on the ground than skating.  Screams could be heard all around the centre as they tried desperately to keep on their feet.  The Rangers other activity was the skywalk which was an obstacle course 100 feet up the air.  Definitely not for the faint hearted – congrats to all the Rangers who completed the course – the conclusion of which was a bungy jump!

In the afternoon the bowling finals took place with those who qualified bowling while their companies did their other activity.  It was great to see the girls competing against each other with friendly rivalry.  Congrats to all who took part especially the winners!

A great day was had by all and the buses left for home that night with some very tired girls on board.
