The World Council of the International Catholic Conference of Guiding took place in King’s Hospital School in Palmerstown from 10th to 14th August 2009 and will be hosted by the Catholic Guides of Ireland.

What is ICCG?

ICCG brings together the National Catholic Guide Associations, national interdenominational Guiding organisations with a Catholic majority and national groups of Catholic Guides.  The mission of ICCG is to help Catholic leaders fulfil their mission of education and service and to help Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to experience more intensely their Christian faith through Guiding.  ICCG also brings the Guide Movement into the international life of the Church and represents its members on international organisations of Catholic laity.

In 1965 ICCG was recognized by the Holy See as an international Catholic organisation.  In 1977 ICCG adopted the Catholic Guides Charter, which laid down the principles for its work.  In 1994 a new structure was created with regional committees and a world committee.

World Gatherings

Every three years representatives of the member countries gather together and the World Council is held.  In 2006 this meeting was held in Warsaw, Poland; in 2003 it was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in 2000 it was held for the first time in an African country – Togo.   There are 39 member countries in Africa, Europe and South America.

World Council comes to Ireland

In August 2009 the World Council will take place in Dublin.  This is a big honour for CGI and provides us with an opportunity to showcase Ireland and CGI’s ability to host an international event.

ICCG World Council - Update

Many team meetings have now been held for this important event in August.
There are still places available on all the teams so contact the National Office if you would like to help.

We have written to major companies to get small items such as soaps, minerals, biscuits etc to give to the delegates at this conference.
We are looking for approximately 80 of these items.
If you know of any contacts that may be able to help us with this please contact the National Office with the details.

There are plenty of ways to be involved in ICCG 2009...
Fundraising
Many, many thanks to all of you who have already contributed towards this event!
As you can imagine running a conference of this level requires a lot of finance! A donation of €2/£2 would go a long way to helping us to run a conference of a lifetime so we are asking each member of the organisation to contribute this amount. We all know €2 doesn't go very far these days but when they're all added together it really will make a big difference to this conference.
Reminder! The donation of €2/£2 is per person not per company

See ICCG website: www.cicg-iccg.org

1. Challenge Badge
From Cygnets to Rangers we are hoping everyone will get to know what is happening this year. One good way is to take part in the ICCG challenge badge, see details listed on page 44. Upon completion, the badge is available from the National Office at a cost of 1.50 each. Do not forget to forward your items for display to the National Office.

2. Volunteers needed
As we work on the programme for the ICCG World Council we will be looking for girls and leaders to be involved in different aspects of the week. Please contact National Office if you would like to get involved and keep an eye on the website and Guiders Link for further information. Let's show the world what CGI can do!

................................................................................................................

The countdown to the ICCG World Council is moving steadily downwards. The teams are all in place and have had several meetings or email network contacts. The Planning Team has been busy also. Two members, Carol and Gisele went to Paris in January to meet with members of the World Team and had many of our queries answered. In March the Europe Region team came to Dublin and further discussions on the plans took place.
The programme is taking shape now and the main public event will be the formal opening on Monday 10th August with Concelebrated Mass in St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin. Following the Mass a reception will be held in the Clock Tower just across the road from the church. The choir will come from Cork and are busy rehearsing with a selection of hymns that are traditional and modern, in Irish and in English.
On Tuesday the delegates will travel to Glendalough and spend their day in this area, communing with nature that has changed little since St. Kevin's time. There will be time for an Irish night and an International night, to follow the busy days of meetings and working for the future of ICCG.

Don't Forget:
- To take part in the Challenge badge
- To contribute €2 per member towards the fundraising campaign
- To read the reflections on the World Council Theme that are given in the ICCG website: www.cicg-iccg.org
- To reflect on the theme of the meeting and how it affects Guiding in Ireland: Disciples and Missionaries along the Girl Guide's path
