International - International Commissioners Forum Copenhagen 2006

International Commissioners Forum - Copenhagen - Mairead Quinn & Yvonne Browne - 26th - 29th Oct 2006

The aim of the Forum was to provide a venue for International Commissioners to share and gain information on the important roles they play in the life of their associations. International Commissioners of WAGGGS and WOSM, European Region attended this forum. For the first time this year we were able to bring along a member of the International team.

The Opening of IC Forum took place in Copenhagen City Hall and was performed by Mayor Martin Geertsen. Following this we were refreshed with coffee and traditional Danish pancakes and believe me they were worth tasting! Our group photo was taken and then the real work began.

For three days we worked on partnerships, intercultural education, international exchange and the job of international commissioners. Subjects covered included:Centenary of Scouting, Scouting's Sunrise, WAGGGS World Centres, European Voluntary Service, New EU Youth Programme, Youth of the World, New IC - What? Who? Where? World Thinking Day, Safety in International Activities, Relationships with Other Regions, Scouting and Guiding and the UN

On Friday afternoon we were surprised by a farewell speech from Lesley Bulman – Lever who spoke of all the achievements of WAGGGS during her term of office and of the fond memories she will have of her work and her visits to the various countries and organisations.

The latter part of Saturday afternoon was an open market at which each association displayed information about themselves and their recent events, programmes, etc. Again there was a lot to be learnt here and many leaflets gathered on the various associations in the region. There was great interest in our new programme and PR leaflets and everyone seemed impressed that we had used the new WAGGGS strap line in the new PR material

Despite all the hard work we also had time for fun and on Saturday evening we learnt some Danish Folk dances, which were a little like slower versions of our own Irish Set Dances, we also went on a canal tour of Copenhagen and had dinner in Restaurant Ad Libitum where we could eat and drink as much as we wanted for 2hrs!

The Forum was an informative and enjoyable experience for which we are grateful for the opportunity to attend.
